These Petrified Palm balls are also from West Java. They are of a much higher grade than any from California, Florida, etc, and are millions of years old.
Typically, when a log falls to the ground, it will fracture into several pieces. These are all whole and unbroken natural pieces, unlike most petrified woods. They have the ability to sell as a specimen in their natural state, or as an entire polished natural ball.
They are the most sought after for cutting slabs and cabs (for lapidary and jewelry work), due to their distinctive grain patterns and colors. These pieces are of extremely rare quality and were high graded out of some six hundred plus metric tons by the geologist who worked the dig. They are also fully agatized, while the rest were only carbonized. This is a sample of their quality as they are.
